Andre Onana is set to rejoin Trabzonspor on loan for the 2026/27 season.
Manchester United have made a decision to send Andre Onana out on loan again, with a deal with Trabzonspor set to be finalised.
Onana joined Trabzonspor on loan for the 2025/26 season, but this move was a marriage of convenience at the time.
Manchester United made Onana available for transfer after signing Senne Lammens on deadline day, leaving the goalkeeper with limited options. The Turkish window was still open, so a deal with Trabzonspor was struck.
This time the deal is happening for the right reasons. Onana and Trabzonspor have both sought out the move early in the transfer window.

Andre Onana is re-joining Trabzonspor on loan again for 2026/27 – What are your thoughts?
Early deal helps United
Our snap verdict is that sending Andre Onana out on loan to Trabzonspor is initially disappointing. It would have been much better to agree a permanent sale.
However, it is good that United have acted early to strike a deal. The worst case scenario was Onana reported for pre-season and became a distraction the coaching staff did not want, while negotiations over his future dragged out.
There is no guarantee a bidder would have come forward, and United might have had to settle for a loan deal in the end anyway. This way there is at least early clarity for all parties, with a swift resolution, with an impact on the wage bill.
Turkish reaction positive
The reaction in Turkey has been positive to the agreement to bring back Andre Onana. Trabzonspor finished in third place last season and the Cameroon goalkeeper is regarded as an important part of the team.
Newspaper Milliyet reported the deal as ‘Good news for Trabzonspor’, noting that Onana has ‘impressed’ while playing for the club last season.
Takvim excitedly report: “A world class star will wear the jersey again next season”.
The outlet report that Onana was not wanted by Michael Carrick at United and an agreement has been reached for him to return to Trabzonspor.
Onana was described as playing a ‘major role’ in Trabzonspor’s strong season in 2025/26, in which they won the Turkish Cup.
The tone around Onana’s move is clearly positive, with Onana viewed as an important part of their plans for next season.
It’s a shame United could not generate a fee from their desire to sign him, but as usual, these type of sales are made complicated by Onana’s high salary.
