Andre Onana has just experienced his best moment for Trabzonspor on loan from Manchester United.

This season has seen Andre Onana attempting to restore his reputation as a goalkeeper, on loan at Trabzonspor in the Turkish Super Lig.

His performances have been decent with the occasional howler, but Manchester United’s asking price won’t be matched.

Therefore, Onana intends to return to Old Trafford this summer and try to fight Senne Lammens for the starting spot. Which seems very unlikely.

However, Onana has just had a brilliant night for Trabzonspor.

Andre Onana makes three shootout saves for Trabzonspor in win

Onana has had some bad days for Trabzonspor, but his latest performance is the best yet.

Starting in the Turkish Cup quarter-final against Samsunspor, Onana’s side went all the way to penalties, and he turned out to be the hero.

Onana led his side to a 3-1 win in the shootout, as the Cameroonian saved three of the four penalties he faced.

This included Onana saving the first three spot kicks in the shootout, meaning that by the time he conceded one, it was pretty inconsequential.

The triple save in the penalty shootout sends Trabzonspor into the semi-finals and will almost certainly have been the highlight of his loan spell so far.

It shows that Onana does still have goalkeeping quality.

Onana was Manchester United’s shootout hero vs Coventry

Onana’s heroics for Trabzonspor come in a timely manner, as we have just passed the two-year mark since he was in a shootout for United against Coventry in the FA Cup final.

United threw away a 3-0 lead, resulting in penalties being needed to separate the sides.

Casemiro missed penalty number one, which had United on the back foot. That is, until Onana stepped up to deny Callum O’Hare with a crucial save, for United to go on and win.

One of Onana’s better moments for United, and now almost exactly two years later, he’s proven to be vital in another penalty shootout.
