Senne Lammens’ time at Manchester United would have been very different if the club stuck to their initial summer plan.
Manchester United’s final signing of the summer window was a deadline day deal for goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
Despite Ruben Amorim wanting Emiliano Martinez to arrive at Old Trafford, Ineos stuck to their data-driven approach and completed an £18m deal for Lammens from Royal Antwerp.

How many points did Bayindir cost United at the start of the season?
Since Lammens starred on his debut against Sunderland, he has been a starter ever since for the Red Devils, and he already looks like a bargain signing by Ineos.
But it wasn’t always the plan for Lammens to be United’s No.1 this season…

United loaned Andre Onana to Trabzonspor late in the summer window, with Amorim running out of patience with 29-year-old shot-stopper.
Despite Onana wanting to stay at United, he was pushed towards an exit, although it seems that wasn’t always the plan.
Speaking to Belgian outlet HBVL, Lammens’ agent Mark Volders explained: “The big problem was that they expected a very well-known name, like Donnarumma or Emi Martinez.

“But actually, for a long time, the intention within United was for Onana to simply stay and for Senne to be given time to adjust.
“Ultimately, they only changed their minds at the very end. Onana left, and Senne was fully drawn. But in retrospect, you can only say that United were right about that.”
Man United went all-in on Senne Lammens
Lammens was not exactly a household name when he arrived at United. He certainly couldn’t rival the achievements of Martinez or Donnarumma.
However, now halfway through the 25/26 campaign, United will be absolutely delighted with their decision.
Lammens has shown elite mentality, which is exactly what is required of a United goalkeeper. He strikes a brilliant balance between being good in possession, a strong shot-stopper and also be brave enough to come collect crosses into the box.

Statistics suggested that Lammens was a diamond in the rough, and Ineos took a gamble on the 23-year-old.
Now, it seems United have solved their goalkeeper dilemma for the next decade.
