Jadon Sancho sealed a transfer to Chelsea just in time for the transfer deadline, seemingly bringing an end to his time at the club.
The transfer deal is a loan move with an obligation to buy – which Manchester United will have to hope Chelsea will not try to wriggle out of.
The loan obligation would be paid next summer, at a fee of £23 million. It should bring an end to a miserable time at Manchester United for the winger.
Sancho signed for Manchester United in 2021 for £73 million, and has failed to look like a player worth anywhere near that kind of money.
He struggled under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick and Erik ten Hag, before falling out with the Dutchman last season, sitting out three months, and going on loan to Dortmund.
While Dortmund reached the Champions League final, Sancho’s distinctly average Bundesliga performances failed to convince the German side to buy him permanently.

Manchester United fans blast Sancho
Manchester United supporters are glad to see the back of Jadon Sancho, citing a lack of willingness to fight for the shirt.
Instead of fighting for his place he has jumped ship once again to sign with a Premier League competitor this time, and he won’t be back at Old Trafford.
United fans on social media have blasted Sancho as up there as the worst United signing of all time.
One wrote: “Good riddance Sancho! Awful attitude!”
Another added: “Sancho has the worst mentality of any player I’ve ever seen at United.”
“Sancho needs to get the Di Maria treatment when he comes back to Old Trafford. Club wasted years chasing him, spent fortunes signing him, gave him a huge contract only for him to piss all over us time after time. One of the very worst signings in the club’s history,” wrote another.
Others agreed, with one writing: “Glad Sancho is gone, worst signing since Di Maria,” and “Sancho is the worst transfer United have ever done, thank god he’s gone.”
A sixth fan posted: “Safe to say Sancho is quite easily the worst signing we’ve made in the history of Manchester United Football Club, pre Glazer and pre PL included. What an absolute waste of space.”
Another contrasted him with Scott McTominay, adding: “Although not an out and out starter I’m gutted to see McTominay go but good luck to him. On the other hand, delighted we’ve got shot of Sancho. What a truly awful signing he’s been”
And one more wrote: “Wonderful news. One of the worst signings we ever made based purely on his terrible attitude. Good Riddance.”
Jadon Sancho performances at Manchester United
Jadon Sancho struggled to make any kind of impact at Manchester United, making 83 appearances.
Here is a look at how Sancho’s performances broke down per his various managers at Old Trafford. The only one he really looked comfortable under was caretaker boss Michael Carrick.
| Manager | Games | Goals |
| Erik ten Hag | 45 | 7 |
| Ralf Rangnick | 21 | 3 |
| Ole Gunnar Solskjaer | 14 | 0 |
| Michael Carrick | 3 | 2 |
Sancho’s struggles are reflected by his value, from being one of Manchester United’s most expensive ever signings, to a player nobody wanted to pay a permanent offer for this summer.
A loan with an obligation was the best United could do, for just £23 million, and this point United will take it.
Sancho still has the potential to be a very good player, but he may have his work cut out at Chelsea, a club with a confusing strategy.
Getting Sancho off the books was necessary to move forward, and we hope he has a moderately decent season so that the permanent move goes off without a hitch.
