Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said his side are ‘proud’ of their undefeated away record in the league this season.

The feat had only been achieved three times before, twice by Arsenal and once by Preston.

United rounded off this season’s Premier League campaign with a 2-1 win against Wolves that United manager said made him ‘smile’.

The manager fielded a weakened side, with one eye on the Europa League final, which was full of youngsters.

Ole was particularly impressed with winger Anthony Elanga who got first goal for the club in his second Premier League start.

Amad Diallo, 19, also got his second start for the club and made a nuisance of himself for the Wolves back line.

Talking to BT Sport, Ole said: “Very, very happy. Proud of them, [they] took the ball well, created chances and got the win they deserved.

“The pace and enthusiasm of Elanga, Amad, Dan James as well. Then you’ve got Donny, Nemanja and Juan who have got all the experience and quality so it worked well.

“He [Elanga] could’ve had two before and then just being confident enough to get in there again. I’m very pleased with him and he’s got a bright future ahead of him.

United remain undefeated away

Manchester United finished the season in second place but can be ‘proud’ of managing to go undefeated away from throughout the entire Premier League season.

It is the kind of form away that should yield titles, but United’s home form seriously let them down this season.

But it provides a brilliant benchmark to build upon and if maintained, combined with better home performances, there is a significant chance that United could catch City next season.

Ole said after the game: “Our home form this season hasn’t been the greatest but what an achievement. To go a season undefeated that’s something we’ll be proud of.

“Today made me smile, all these players expressing themselves, like we want to see and no injuries.”

Juan Mata’s future

Juan Mata played as though it was his last game today, with plenty of emotion on show.

But Ole’s comments after the game suggest that his future has not yet been decided and there are still some discussions to take place.

Despite Mata’s age, he would still be a valuable asset to the squd and a great character with experience to keep in the changing toom

“We are talking to Juan and we’ll sit down and of course it’s a bit what he wants as well

“I don’t give him enough game time but he’s such a top professional with top qualities so we’ll have a good discussion.”
