Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has offered an update on Anthony Martial’s recovery from injury.

Speaking to the club website, Solskjaer said Martial is still not taking part in full first team training.

He did say that Martial’s recovery from his knee injury looks ‘good’ but it seems a return to matches is still not close.

Yes, there will be more players coming,” Solskjaer said ahead of the friendly with Brentford tonight.

“Anthony Martial has also joined us, but he’s not joined the team training yet. He’s recovering from the knee injury and that looks good.

“The rest of them will drop in after their well-earned holidays because some of them needed them and they deserved them.”

Martial has been out since the 3-1 defeat to Leicester in the FA Cup quarter-finals in March.

Jadon Sancho’s arrival frees up Mason Greenwood to challenge Edinson Cavani upfront while Martial is out.

Greenwood has been leading the line in pre-season while United await the return of a host of senior players.

Marcus Rashford’s injury means Martial, 25, could well get more opportunities on the left when he returns – if the England international decides to go for surgery which would keep him out until October.

There has also been speculation over Martial’s future but the first thing he needs to focus on is getting fit and it seems like his recovery is moving in the right direction, even if he’s not ready for first team training just yet.
