Ineos will have to balance Manchester United’s finances when trying to back Ruben Amorim with new signings.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe made the eyebrow-raising claim earlier this month that Manchester United were going bust by the end of 2025 before he implemented cost-cutting methods.
The Red Devils have suffered heavy losses over the past three years, which has left the club in an alarming position when it comes to the Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Ratcliffe also revealed that United have already spent £89m on transfers this summer through instalments for previous signings.
As a result of United’s poor spending over the past decade, Ineos have had to change the transfer strategy at Old Trafford.

£250m wage bill will impact Man United transfers
In the latest financial accounts published by Manchester United, the club’s wage bill sat at £365million – only Liverpool’s and Manchester City’s were higher.
However, speaking to Gary Neville on The Overlap, Ratcliffe claimed that United’s player wage bill is £250m, meaning over £100m is spent on coaching costs, executives and club staff.
Ratcliffe has ordered another 200 job cuts at United to try and lower costs, and it seems Ineos are tightening their grip on player salaries too.
According to The Athletic, player salaries will be at the heart of United’s transfer planning from now on.
Club chiefs are attempting to be restrained on deals for new signings, holding off on giving big pay rises to players.
The hierarchy at United also want to make sure that the players who are paid well are able to feature regularly. Injuries have been an issue for United in the past two seasons in particular.
Why Patrick Dorgu fits Ineos transfer strategy perfectly
The days of United signing mega-stars is likely over with Ineos at the helm. Instead, they are focused on signing up-and-coming youngsters.
In January, the first major signing brought in under Amorim was the £25m deal for Patrick Dorgu.
Amorim had asked for more physicality to be added to his side and Dorgu has been described as a “machine”. The 20-year-old has made a bright start to life in England and Ineos will be quietly delighted by the deal they got.

Dorgu is earning £38,500 per week at United, and his contract is valid until 2030 with an option to extend. United have secured a really exciting youngster on a fantastic deal and that is what Ineos will want to replicate this summer.
Through Amad Diallo’s new contract, Ineos have proven that they will reward young players who perform well.
