Manchester United’s squad has been lacking a major quality over the past few years, but Ruben Amorim has set out to fix it.
Upon taking charge of Manchester United, the squad at the disposal of the head coach will have sparked concern.
Ruben Amorim’s style of football is ultra-intense, which is a style that Erik ten Hag’s squad which was almost the worst in the league for running was not used to.
This has been pretty evident with the struggles United’s squad has had in adapting to Amorim’s demands. Due to this several United players are likely to be culled this summer.
However, Amorim has already made it clear to the club the qualities he wants in players signed from now on.
Ineos has been taking it on board, with recent signings raising United’s physical floor.

Ruben Amorim demands intensity from Manchester United signings
The physical floor in United’s squad was incredibly low last season, with Ineos now tasked with fixing this.
Fabrizio Romano has explained that physicality and intensity are top of Amorim’s criteria for signings while speaking with GiveMeSport.
“But while it’s still too early to make decisions, for sure the plan is clear and after January, Man United can fully focus on the summer window.
“But while it’s still too early to make decisions, for sure the plan is clear and after January, Man United can fully focus on the summer window.
“The clear intention is to invest in young players with salaries in line with the new plan wanted by Ineos, trusting Ruben Amorim’s idea as he keeps telling the club how crucial it is to bring in players who can give intensity to this squad – this is the key word that will dominate the summer window for Man United.”
Ineos are already raising United’s physical floor
While Amorim will be asking for this profile of player to be signed, Ineos are already working to fulfil these demands with recruitment in recent months.
United signing Leny Yoro started this move to sign more physical and intense players – and 2025 has seen it continue.
Patrick Dorgu’s running is among his biggest qualities, while United have signed almost a mini Dorgu in 17-year-old Diego Leon.
United’s summer 2025 transfer window will follow similar lines with Geovany Quenda already being eyed up by Ineos.
While it is a trait likely to also be recurrent in each addition. With a must-sign target, Chris Rigg also having this quality.
