Alejandro Garnacho was in action for Manchester United against Rangers, defying transfer claims.

Manchester United wonderkid Alejandro Garnacho has been subject of intense transfer speculation, linked to both Napoli and Chelsea.

Prior to kick-off against Rangers, it was even claimed Garnacho is keen on Chelsea – but you wouldn’t have known by watching him at Old Trafford.

Garnacho was selected as a starter and played well, and the crowd cheered his name during the second half, appreciating his efforts.

Rio Ferdinand comments on Alejandro Garnacho

Speaking to TNT Sports, former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand gave his verdict on Alejandro Garnacho’s display.

The club legend acknowledged the praise Garnacho received from the crowd, commenting: “I think they were making their feelings very clear. They love him, they sing about him often.”

Ferdinand noted that it is not a one-way street, pointing out that Garnacho gives supporters reason to be excited due to his style of play.

He noted: “One thing he does give you; he puts you on the edge of your seat.”

The dilemma of course is that Garnacho is a winger, and his game is not a natural fit for Ruben Amorim’s style of play.

Ferdinand commented: “He is always direct, but the system is the one thing that goes against him.

“I don’t think you see the best of him in those inside areas.”

Garnacho transfer claims

Rio Ferdinand went on to add that he does not believe Alejandro Garnacho is the driving force behind exit rumours.

He commented: “This kid has huge talent and huge ability. I don’t think Garnacho is the one initiating the move.”

This makes sense on one hand, with Garnacho still playing for United, rather than desperately trying to force an exit.

United In Focus have been told that Garnacho is worried about his future at Old Trafford, fearing he simply won’t be part of Ruben Amorim’s system long-term.

Amorim has publicly expressed that Garnacho must improve to play in his system, and while he has a starting spot for now, this could change next season when the head coach is able to bring in his own players.

But it is certainly interesting. Is Garnacho driving it? Is it his agent? Or are Ineos pushing him out, perhaps with Ruben Amorim’s approval?
