Manchester United weren’t at their best against Rangers but a late goal from Bruno Fernandes secured all three points.
United welcomed Rangers to Old Trafford for an important Europa League tie. The game won’t be remembered as a classic, but it definitely entertained in parts.
Jack Butland punched the ball into his own net to give United the lead before Cyriel Dessers scored a sublime equaliser with just minutes to go.
Fernandes‘ extra-time winner sealed the tie, though, and put the Red Devils into the competition’s automatic qualification spots.
Goals aside, here are five things you might have missed from United’s latest victory.

Altay Bayindir’s lucky free kick
Altay Bayindir was excellent again in goal. The backup keeper is pushing Andre Onana for the number one jersey.
Bayindir made a great stretching stop from a corner just before halftime.
The referee blew the whistle for a foul after the keeper went down in a heap. However, upon closer inspection, it became clear the United keeper had fouled himself by diving into Toby Collyer’s knee.
Fortunately, he was okay and was able to continue, but he was definitely lucky to have been awarded a foul.
Rangers defender “folding like a pack of cards”
Matthijs de Ligt thought he opened the game’s scoring after 23 minutes. The big Dutch centre-back headed the ball into the back of Butland’s net but his effort was chalked off after Leny Yoro was deemed to have fouled Robin Propper.
When reviewing the replay, TNT Sports commentator and former United defender Rio Ferdinand hilariously said the Rangers defender “folded like a pack of cards” from what was a “really soft” collision.
Red Devils not playing to Joshua Zirkzee strengths
Named in United’s starting lineup, Joshua Zirkzee was tasked with leading his side’s attack.
The Dutchman had a poor game overall though.
He failed to register a single shot on target throughout the first half and Ally McCoist suggested he should benched for Rasmus Hojlund because the rest of the team “don’t play to his strengths”.

Fans make Alejandro Garnacho feelings known
Alejandro Garnacho is heavily linked with a transfer to Chelsea and its safe to say United fans aren’t on board.
A packed Old Trafford crowd were heard singing “Viva Garnacho” on repeat for a solid two minutes around the hour mark.
Their message was clear — stay.
Manuel Ugarte’s diving header
Introduced in the second half, Manuel Ugarte was asked to shore things up.
What Amorim wouldn’t have expected was for the South American to almost score a diving header — but that’s what he very nearly did.
Butland saved Ugarte’s flying effort, but had the ball have snuck in, the Uruguayan would have scored one of United’s best goals of the season.
