Jadon Sancho is expected to start training for Manchester United today (Monday) for the first time.
Sancho will be looking to prove his fitness and try and earn a place in United’s starting line-up to face Leeds next weekend.
The winger’s arrival has largely been welcomed as a very shrewd addition for United.
One predictable moaner was Graeme Souness, who told The Times he is not convinced Sancho will be a difference maker against top teams. (Read more here)
Fellow pundit Danny Murphy is a lot more confident. He picked Sancho out in The Mail as one of his top 10 players to watch in the Premier League this season and backs the Manchester United winger to make a quick impact.
Murphy said: “What Sancho has, which is really special for a wide player, is fantastic end product in terms of goals and assists. It’s down to his awareness and decision making, he knows when to pass, when to cross, when to be more selfish and go for goal.
“The way he glides over the pitch makes him a nightmare to mark because he can drop his shoulder and go inside or outside, defenders don’t know how to stop him.
“I suspect Sancho will hit the ground running once he’s had a few training sessions. He’ll be full of confidence and what Solskjaer will like is that he’s a real team player; if he can set up chances for Cavani, Greenwood, Martial and Rashford, he will. All great teams need that.”
Exciting options
United’s attack looks stronger than in a long time, and when Marcus Rashford is back after his operation, United will be at full strength.
Picking a front three from United’s available options will not be easy, and the competition for places could bring out the best in everybody.
United will be able to rotate effectively and not be so reliant on Rashford like last season. Sancho can play on both flanks and that will be very useful to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Sancho will have a real point to prove too, as he will want to show anybody who doubts him, that he can produce in the Premier League. It is good to hear pundits talking him up, rather than those like Souness, who question him and dismiss him before he has even kicked a ball for United.
