Manchester United star Raphael Varane has sent a heartfelt message to fans after the Red Devils’ 2-1 Premier League win over Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday.

Raphael Varane made his return to the Manchester United starting XI for the trip to Villa Park after Lisandro Martinez’s injury in the 3-0 win against West Ham.

The 30-year-old Frenchman partnered alongside Harry Maguire, who assisted Rasmus Hojlund’s opener against Aston Villa, and impressed with his performance.

Varane’s long-term future at Old Trafford has been shrouded in mystery this season amid fierce transfer interest from Saudi Arabia.

The former Real Madrid star forged a formidable partnership with Martinez last season and the two United stars were widely hailed for their impact in defence.

Varane started in the 2-0 FA Cup win over Wigan and the 4-2 victory over Newport County in the cup competition last month.

The 2018 World Cup winner remains a key part of Erik ten Hag’s squad and played the full 90 minutes in the 2-2 draw against Tottenham and 4-3 win against Wolves.

Varane’s message receives response

Following the win against Aston Villa, Raphael Varane took to social media platform Instagram and sent an important message to Manchester United fans.

The former France international pointed to United’s six-match unbeaten run across all competitions and thanked the travelling fans for their support.

“[Six matches] unbeaten to start the year with amazing away support today! The fight continues,” Varane wrote.

Diogo Dalot took to Varane’s Instagram post and perfectly summed up the former Los Blancos star’s performance in two words.

The 24-year-old United full-back commented “mi guerrero,” which translates to “my warrior” from Spanish to English.

Scott McTominay praises Varane

United sealed all three points against Villa thanks to Scott McTominay, who came off the bench and scored a bullet header past Emi Martinez in the 86th minute.

Speaking after the match, McTominay praised the defensive partnership between Varane and Maguire and called the United duo “immense” in their performances.

“We started really well but they are a really good team and came back into it and caused us problems,” he told Sky Sports (via BBC).

“The guys at the back were immense, particularly Harry [Maguire] and Raphael [Varane]. It was a top-level performance and a deserved win in the end.

“I feel like as long as I’m fit and healthy, I can come onto the pitch and perform.

“I don’t take it personally, I just want to come in and try to do the best I can for this [team]. Long may it continue.”
