Raphael Varane is attracting interest from Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad ahead of a potential future move, according to reports.

Manchester United defender Raphael Varane has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford with Erik ten Hag preferring Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.

The French defender was superb at the heart of the United defence alongside Lisandro Martinez but the former Real Madrid player has found himself down the pecking order.

Varane’s future at United looks to be in the balance with the 30-year-old being strongly linked with a move to Bayern Munich but Saudi Pro League sides are putting their names forward.

Saudi’s interest

According to a report from Ben Jacobs in his exclusive Daily Briefing column, Saudi side Al-Ittihad are believed to be ready to make a move for the Frenchman.

Bayern are reportedly hesitant about a move for the Frenchman due to the wages and the age of the defender which has led to the Saudi side declaring their interest.

Varane was linked with Al-Ittihad over the summer but rejected their advances due to his desire to continue in England when he was the first choice at the club.

However, five months later, things have changed for the former Real Madrid defender and he now looks to be further down the pecking order, even behind Jonny Evans, who joined the club on a free transfer on the final day of the Summer transfer window.

Varane’s future looks bleak

There was talk of a new defender being targeted over the summer, one who could gradually come in and replace Varane in the starting lineup.

So it is quite surprising that just a few months on, the Red Devils are now looking for a centre-back who will immediately take over from the Frenchman and come straight into the team.

Antonio Silva looks to be the top defensive target next summer, this would surely mean an end to Varane’s time in England if the 20-year-old is signed.

It would be a sad way to end his time in the North West after such a brilliant season last year.
