Ruben Amorim has been appointed the new head coach of AC Milan, seven months after his Manchester United exit, but so far it hasn’t been smooth sailing.
Since Ruben Amorim was named AC Milan’s head coach earlier this week, he hasn’t had much good news.
First, Milan’s move for Markus Krosche fell through, leaving them short the top option to be the clubs new sporting director this summer, which directly impacts how good transfer business could be this summer.
Manchester United won’t mind things going wrong for Amorim, and now Rafael Leao has added another blow.

Rafael Leao won’t commit to Ruben Amorim or AC Milan
Leao has already voiced his desire to leave Milan this summer, speaking about potentially moving to the Premier League amid links with United.
But there is sound logic in thinking his compatriot arriving as head coach could change this.
However, speaking to Tutto Mercato Web, Leao was asked about Amorim and he refused to give any sign of being happy with the appointment.
“Now my focus is solely on the World Cup, on helping the national team. I want to give my all and go as far as possible. Once the World Cup is over, I’ll think about my future.”
This won’t be welcomed by Amorim, who clearly hasn’t been enough to instantly see Leao change his mind over his future.
What makes it worse for Amorim is that United are the favourites for Leao, which will really frustrate him.

Rafael Leao to Manchester United adds another layer to August friendly
While Leao to United is far from done, if it was to happen, then August 15th in Poland with United taking on Milan will add another layer to this huge clash.
Amorim against Michael Carrick, before the season even starts. While a friendly, the game has untold importance to United, because losing to Amorim would lead to a lot of toxicity and negativity.
This game will set the tone for the season, and likely be featured as episode one of 2027’s All or Nothing series based on United’s campaign.
Leao being added to this narrative would just be fuel to a fire.
One to watch, but as Leao himself said, he won’t be moving until after the World Cup.
