One of Ruben Amorim’s signings says there is an absolutely essential requirement for new Man Utd boss’ transfers

Manchester United will welcome Ruben Amorim to the club next week when the new head coach starts his job.

Ruben Amorim’s much-anticipated November 11 start date allows the new head coach to adjust to his new surroundings.

Amorim will be working with the players left behind from international duty, starting to plan for his first fixture in charge.

The new boss must get to know his squad ahead of a busy December schedule which features matches against Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle among others.

Ruben Amorim approach to signings

Once the frenetic December is over, Ruben Amorim will be plunged into the January transfer window.

Whether he will be afforded any funds is as yet unclear, amid conflicting reports, while it is clear United need a new left-back, and arguably another striker.

Amorim will have to comply with the budget set via Ineos, which could depend on how optimistic they are of achieving European football by time January comes around.

One of Amorim’s former players is Bruno Tabata, one of his early signings for Sporting back in 2020.

In an interview with PL Brasil, Tabata has expressed his admiration of the new Manchester United boss, and explained his approach to bringing players in.

Tabata explained: “He always tries to find out the profile of the players before bringing them to the club, but I believe that his base is what is necessary, professional players who are willing to tactically fulfill what he asks.”

Amorim has clear tactical ideas, playing with three centre-backs and wing-backs, and he will need players capable of fulfiling his demands.

Tabata added: “He has some signature methods, he hardly changes his routines during the week.

“Maybe he is even more detailed and demanding [at Manchester United] because the pressure and competitiveness are greater.”

Head coach role means Amorim part of new set up

Ever since Ineos took over in December 2023, a gradual restructure has begun in the football department at Manchester United.

Replacing Erik ten Hag as manager and installing Ruben Amorim as head coach was the final piece of the puzzle, with the boss’ role fitting into the more senior roles around him.

This means Amorim will not dictate the transfer choices, instead he will work collaboratively with those around him, who chose to appoint him.

With all this in mind, Amorim’s tactics will have a key role in recruitment too; Dan Ashworth, Christopher Vivell and Jason Wilcox will want to find players who fit the system, and need.

It’s just common sense, but common sense has not always been applied at Manchester United when it comes to recruitment over the past decade.
