Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been heavily linked with a sensational return to Manchester United until the end of the season following Ruben Amorim’s dismissal. It’s a move that would likely prove popular with senior members of the dressing room.
Manchester United sacked Ruben Amorim on Monday following a topsy-turvy first half to the 2025/26 season.
The position became untenable after Amorim challenged Ineos at his post-match press conference on Sunday, after United’s 1-1 draw against Leeds at Elland Road.
United have listed Oliver Glasner as a top target as the Austrian could reach the end of his Crystal Palace contract in the summer, unless the Eagles can convince him to agree on a new deal.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could lean on Man Utd leaders Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire
With a decision expected this week, Solskjaer is a strong contender to become United’s interim head coach until the end of the season.
That would see the Norwegian return to Old Trafford for a second time as interim manager. The last time Solskjaer earned the job permanently was before getting sacked in 2021 following a poor run of results.
Earlier this year, Solskjaer revealed that Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire are the only current players who kept in contact with him after he left United four years ago.
Solskjaer said: “For me, Harry [Maguire] has always been a leader and a fighter. I was never in doubt when I signed him and he walked in the door he would be captain for us.
“There is another captain there in Bruno [Fernandes]. The two of them are top human beings. I was so happy for them last night [Europa League semifinal first leg].
“Those two and Victor [Lindelof] are probably the only ones I have heard from in the club since I left. You want the best for them.”

Why do you think it went so well for Ole?
Now, with a potential return on the cards, Solskjaer will look to lean on Fernandes and Maguire, who are still considered leaders in the dressing room.
This may be the final season United have Fernandes and Maguire, but they’re two loyal servants who would give everything regardless of who is the manager or head coach.
Fernandes and Maguire have been out of action with injuries, but the former is expected to return against Burnley in the Premier League on Wednesday night.
Bruno Fernandes record under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

He played 97 matches under the Norwegian coach, scoring 44 goals and creating 35 assists.
That’s an average of 0.81 goals and assists per game.
