Micah Richards and Alan Shearer in complete disagreement over role that Man Utd man with ‘big personality’ should play

Micah Richards and Alan Shearer could not see eye to eye on one key Manchester United man after the Red Devils’ 3-0 win over Leicester City at Old Trafford.

Manchester United head into the November international break in 13th place in the Premier League table, with the Red Devils four points adrift from the top four.

Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring for United on Sunday before Leicester City’s Victor Kristiansen planted the ball in the back of his own net in the first half.

Alejandro Garnacho then sealed United’s 3-0 win in the second half after he came off the bench and found the back of the net in the Premier League clash.

Sunday’s Premier League result against Leicester City at Old Trafford was United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy’s final match in charge at the Red Devils.

Ruud van Nistelrooy has secured three wins and one draw across all competitions in his four-match spell as United interim manager.

The 48-year-old United legend took up his post as interim manager at the Premier League club after Erik ten Hag was sacked by the Red Devils.

Richards on ‘really respected’ Man Utd man

Ruud van Nistelrooy, who returned to Old Trafford in the summer, was an assistant manager under Erik ten Hag before his fellow Dutchman was axed from the club.

Ruben Amorim will succeed Ten Hag at Old Trafford after United triggered the buyout clause in the 39-year-old Portuguese manager’s Sporting CP contract.

The former Sporting CP boss officially became United manager on Monday and is expected to bring his own coaching staff to the Premier League club.

Van Nistelrooy’s future at United remains uncertain under Amorim and Micah Richards believes that Amorim should retain the services of the Dutchman.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football, Richards said: “We always talk about the connection between the staff or the players and the fans. Van Nistelrooy just has that.

“They have sort of bought into what he was trying to do, really respected. If I was in Man United’s position, I would be keeping him around as first-team coach.”

Shearer on Van Nistelrooy and Man Utd

Ruben Amorim’s first match in charge of United will be after the November international break.

The newly appointed United manager will lead the Red Devils against Ipswich Town in the Premier League clash at Portman Road on 24th November.

Alan Shearer disagreed with Richards’ assessment of Van Nistelrooy and The Rest Is Football co-host believes that the Dutchman will likely want a “clean break.”

“Yeah, you know, I understand that and I get that, but I don’t know. He is a big personality,” he said.

“You get the feeling he wants to be a number one, he wants to be a manager. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if he was to have a clean break and say, I have done what was asked of me, thank you very much.

“Amorim came in and had a sort of a clean sweep, he is bringing all of his own people in, and then Ruud can go and find himself a number one job somewhere.”
