Manchester United are now very close to appointing Ruben Amorim as the new manager, with Sporting Lisbon fans very upset.
After Erik ten Hag suffered defeat to West Ham, his position as manager was untenable which led to Ineos making the ultimate decision over his future.
Ten Hag was sacked on Monday, with Manchester United moving incredibly fast to find the ideal replacement who at the moment looks likely to be Ruben Amorim.
Sporting Lisbon released a statement on Tuesday afternoon which confirmed that the move was near as United triggered his release clause.
After this news, Sporting fans were reportedly left far from pleased.
Sporting Lisbon fans not pleased about Ruben Amorim exit
On Tuesday night, as Amorim managed possibly his final match for Sporting, he was greeted with a warm and respectful reception.
The news broke hours before Sporting were due to kick off against Nacional – with fans some outside the Sporting stadium reportedly not happy.
According to journalist Nathan Salt, there is a bit of a running joke going around the fanbase that they will ‘hitch a lift’ to the Lisbon airport and block all entrances to keep Amorim from flying to Manchester.
He added that the fans are not taking Amorim’s imminent departure well at all.
Along with this, there was a video shared of one Sporting supporter in tears at the prospect of Amorim leaving – admitting it would be a very big loss and also that it is tough to watch the news.
The fan could not contain his emotions, bursting into tears which says a lot about the relationship between Amorim and the Sporting fans – something which we hope he can bring to Old Trafford.
Ruben Amorim to Manchester United latest
Amorim may not yet be the manager of Manchester United, but he looks very likely to be – however his first game could be set back weeks.
However, even if his start is delayed we are increasingly confident that he will be a success with several former players already backing him.
Nani has raved about Amorim as a manager, with the pair sharing the fact they are Sporting icons.
If Amorim arrives, he will probably bring his brilliant assistant Carlos Fernandez with him – who Amorim has predicted will do even better than him in football.
