Ruben Amorim is set to make history should he become the next Manchester United manager.

Confirmation of the Sporting boss’ move is imminent after David Ornstein confirmed that he had verbally agreed a deal to become the next Man United boss.

United decided to sack Erik ten Hag on Monday after the Red Devils’ 2-1 loss away at West Ham, leaving them 14th in the Premier League after 10 games.

Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the club’s Carabao Cup Fourth Round tie against Leicester City on Wednesday, but should all parties involved in the deal get over one final stumbling block, Amorim will be a part of history.

Ruben Amorim to become one of Man United’s youngest-ever managers

At 39, Amorim is already one of the Premier League’s youngest-ever managers but at United, he will become the youngest permanent manager to take the reigns at Old Trafford since Sir Matt Busby.

A club legend, Busby was born in 1909 and took the United job in 1945, making him 36 at the time.

The former Scotland international is considered one of the Red Devils’ most successful managers in the club’s history, earning themselves the nickname of the ‘Busby Babes’.

During his time as United boss, he won five First Division titles, two FA Cups, four Charity Shields and one European Cup.

Who are the youngest managers in Premier League history?

If he were to join United at the time of writing, Amorim would officially become the 50th youngest manager in Premier League history at 39 years, six months, and two days old.

That is some way off the league’s youngest-ever permanent manager, who is Brighton & Hove Albion boss Fabian Hurzeler (31 years, five months, and 22 days old).
