Manchester United loanee Di’Shon Bernard was selected as a starter for Salford City for the eighth League 2 game in a row as they travelled to Harrogate on Saturday afternoon.
The Ammies picked up a 1-0 win in Yorkshire, which pushed them into the play-off spots.
Bernard played at centre half as Salford kept a clean sheet for the third league game out of four.
Aerially dominant
Bernard was immense in the air during the match, as he won a whopping 11 headers to help snuff out Harrogate’s attempts to get back into the game.
That was five more than the next most in the Salford ranks, right back Tom Clarke.
Bernard also made six clearances, double the tally made by anybody else in Wellens’ side.
He added four tackles two key passes to round off a very good afternoon’s work.
In total Bernard had 95 touches, the most of any player on either side.
His pass completion rate of 85.4 per cent was also the most efficient among any player who started the game for Salford.
EFL recognition
Bernard’s performance earned him a WhoScored rating of 8.36, which saw him named in the EFL Team of the Week.
United will likely be pleased with how his loan spell is going right now.
He’s starting regularly, for a side who are keeping sheets and he’s performing well individually.
The challenge for him is to find the consistency to keep it going for the entire season. His loan only runs until January. It’s likely Salford will be pushing to extend it.
