Manchester United academy midfielder Tyler Fletcher was involved in the pre-season loss to Wrexham just weeks after representing Scotland at the World Cup.
Tyler Fletcher was a late call-up to Scotland’s World Cup squad after midfielder Billy Gilmour suffered an injury in the lead-up to the tournament.
Despite not playing a single minute of the World Cup, Fletcher gained priceless experience from his call-up and his involvement in the senior international squad.
Scotland failed to make it out of the group stage, and Fletcher wasted no time getting stuck into United’s pre-season training this summer. Michael Carrick involved him in the 1-0 defeat to Wrexham on Saturday afternoon.

Last season, Fletcher was viewed as an exciting prospect who had an outside chance of breaking through and earning a first-team opportunity.
Against Wrexham, Fletcher looked as though he had grown in experience and leadership after his stint at the World Cup.
The 19-year-old was comfortable in possession but willing to take risks and demand the ball at his feet. Fletcher was happy to take responsibility, receiving passes facing his goal and turning the play in midfield.
Despite suffering defeat against Wrexham, Fletcher was part of a much-improved second-half performance from United, which included a handful of bright performances from young players.

Tyler Fletcher can take advantage of Man United’s midfield rebuild
United have overhauled their midfield department this summer through the arrival of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans – one more signing is expected before the transfer window closes.
It is now up to Michael Carrick and his staff to strike the right balance in midfield between his options, and Fletcher can throw his name into the hat with an impressive pre-season.

Against Wrexham, Fletcher proved that he is not only comfortable with the ball at his feet, but that he can handle the physicality of senior football. Once again, that is a trait that would have been helped with his World Cup experience.
Next up for United is a pre-season friendly against Rosenborg in Trondheim, on Friday 24 July. Fletcher can be expected to be involved again.
