Manchester United teammates react as Ethan Laird seals Bournemouth loan

Manchester United academy graduate Ethan Laird has joined Bournemouth on loan until the end of the season.

Laird, 20, made 21 appearances on loan at Swansea in the first half of the campaign but that deal has been cut short in order to allow him to move to the Cherries.

Scott Parker’s side are three points clear at the top of the Championship, putting them on course to return to the Premier League after two seasons away.

Laird has already expressed his excitement about the move while also underlining his desire to return to United next season and impress with a season in the second tier under his belt.

Some of his teammates and fellow academy graduates are clearly thrilled for him and Anthony Elanga, who recently signed a new contract, reacted to the news on Instagram.

James Garner and Di’Shon Bernard have also come through the ranks at United and are currently enjoying loan spells in the Championship.

Garner is at Nottingham Forest and Bernard is at Hull City, with both men impressing this season.

Laird and Bernard could go head-to-head later this month when Bournemouth host Hull on 22 January, with Forest visiting the Vitality Stadium on 19 February.

Both men have also reacted to Laird’s loan deal online, wishing him well for the months ahead.

Teden Mengi is another United talent who is now in the second tier, having sealed a loan move to Birmingham City earlier this week.

Laird and Mengi could face off on February 9 if they are both selected and the central defender wished his fellow academy graduate well too.

Laird laid on four assists as a rampaging right wing-back at the Liberty Stadium, and will hope to continue to impress for Bournemouth.

He was told by Swans manager Russell Martin in September that he needs to add goals to his game to go to the next level.

That means a first Championship strike has to be on the agenda before the end of the season.

Laird could make his debut tomorrow when Bournemouth travel to face National League outfit Yeovil Town in the FA Cup third-round.
