Manchester United have revealed Cristiano Ronaldo’s squad number upon his return to the club.
Ronaldo’s transfer to United was confirmed on transfer deadline day after a fee was previously agreed with Juventus.
United though have kept fans waiting for his squad number to be confirmed, dropping images of his name on the shirt, not showing the number.
Now the club have confirmed Cristiano Ronaldo’s assigned number for the 2021/22 season and beyond.
Ronaldo to wear 7
Ronaldo will wear his iconic number 7 shirt he wore for the club between 2003 and 2009.
The club have confirmed Edinson Cavani will shift to the number 21 shirt.
21 was vacated by Dan James after his sale to Leeds on transfer deadline day, and it is the number Cavani has worn for Uruguay for the past 10 years.
United want to shift shirt sales and did not want to sit on this announcement for any longer.
The club had to get special dispensation from the Premier League for the change as Cavani wore 7 for United last weekend against Wolves.
Ronaldo has thanked Cavani for being willing to give up the number 7.
