Manchester United have announced the signing of 18-year-old winger Tynan Thompson from Premier League rivals Tottenham.

Following the signings of Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Karl Darlow, Manchester United have now welcomed Tynan Thompson as the club’s newest arrival.

United confirmed the deal on Monday morning, with the England youth international set to join, subject to registration.

Thompson is an exciting talent who predominantly plays as a left winger. Last season, the teenage star scored 13 goals and contributed six assists.

Tynan Thompson to Manchester United details

Thompson is hardly a household name for United fans, but there are plenty of reasons for supporters to be excited by this deal.

According to Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold on X, United have paid £4 million up front for Thompson’s signature, with an extra £4 million to be paid in add-ons.

Tottenham have secured a 20% sell-on clause on later profit if Thompson is sold by United.

The North London side also have secured matching rights on future bids, meaning United are forced to accept Tottenham’s offer if it matches any bids made for Thompson.

Gold adds that Thompson had a “difficult year” due to personal circumstances and wanted to relocate.

The Thompson deal is very comparable to the £1 million signing of Ayden Heaven under Ineos.

United have poached a very exciting young talent on the brink of being ready for first-team football.

Thompson was very highly-rated at Tottenham and had made the first-team matchday squad in North London. United moved quickly to win his signature and now he has the chance to develop his talent at Carrington.

Heaven was initially signed as a young talent but has quickly developed into a first-team star at Old Trafford. Michael Carrick will hope that Thompson can follow a similar pathway.
