Manchester United fans react to Jesse Lingard exit reports
Jesse Lingard appears to have made up his mind to leave Manchester United.
BBC Sport, The Times, and The Telegraph are all reporting contract talks have broken down.
Lingard, 28, recently lost his place in the England squad due to a lack of game time, and was not called upon even when players dropped out.
The Manchester United midfielder had impressed on loan at West Ham in the second half of last season.
He was convinced to stay and fight for his place at Old Trafford, and has barely played.
Bad decision making all round
Lingard has not started a single Premier League game this season for United.
This is despite Bruno Fernandes only scoring one goal for the club since the first day of the season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has wasted Lingard’s rejuvenation and taken him back to square one.
This is despite Lingard scoring two league goals from the bench and providing an assist in the Champions League, where he has not started either.
Lingard’s contract is up next summer and there is substantial interest from clubs domestically and abroad.
He could now push for an exit in January on a permanent deal or leave for free.
From United’s perspective this is bad business. The club could have landed at least £20-25 million for him last summer.
This opportunity has now been wasted, and while it is possible Lingard could bounce back with big performances over the next month or so, it seems his mind is made up, and his decision to leave may further hamper his chances of game time.
