Manchester United have sent Ethan Ennis out on loan after his impressive start to the 2024/25 season.
For the U21s this season, 20-year-old Ethan Ennis has been the standout star. Due to this, Ennis was always tipped for a loan move.
It was little shock to see EFL sides keen, considering Ennis had been impressive against senior opposition. A number of excellent performances means Ennis made it clear to Ineos that he had outgrown youth football.
But with minutes for Manchester United looking unlikely a loan was the next best thing.
In December, United were mulling over offers with game-time the key requirement of the loan and now he’s made his move.

Grant McCann raves about Ethan Ennis
On Friday, Ennis completed his loan move to Doncaster Rovers.
Following the announcement by the League Two side, their manager Grant McCann explained his excitement over the arrival of the 20-year-old, admitting that a host of clubs were interested.
“Yeah, he’s a really good signing for us, we’ve had to fight off lots of competition from clubs higher up the pyramid than us, but Man United have trusted us with his development.
“He’s a very exciting player, he can play anywhere across the frontline. I think the Doncaster fans can be really excited about Ethan. We’ve watched lots of him for months now. He’s highly thought off at Man United and we’re starting to build a really good relationship with them which is pleasing.
“I could see how excited and how well he was in training today and keen to get going and we’re really pleased to get him it’s not been easy.”
Continuing, McCann explained the qualities that Ennis has which mean he is well placed to thrive in the Premier League in the future.
“He brings energy, he brings pace, he can stop-start. You see it in Premier League players, even the younger ones now, they all have that stop-start where they go from nothing to absolutely rapid, and Ethan’s got that in abundance.
“He makes clever runs, the way we like our wide forwards to play Ethan’s got all that, huge thanks to Man United.
“It’s progression for us as a football club that these big clubs are trusting us with their best youngsters and he’s certainly one of Man Utd’s best youngsters. He’s got all the tools to go on to be a top Premier League player.”
Doncaster is an excellent loan for Manchester United’s Ennis
Ennis’ loan spell could begin on Saturday when Doncaster travel to face Hull City – although it is unclear if he will play a part.
Once he is available for McCann, it is pivotal that Ennis is getting a large amount of game-time – with United clearly excited by the Liverpudlian with Ennis signing a new contract last summer.
However, it is not only game-time that is important, but that the loan is a good fit for Ennis’ qualities which McCann has convinced us of with his words about Ennis.
Doncaster ranks among the highest-scoring teams in League Two with 35 goals so far this season and so Ennis will be playing in a team that can attack well and this will give him the chance to shine.
Ennis is making up for lost time after he missed 14 months through injury, this this season having him back to his best.
Now, it’s up to the player to take advantage of this opportunity and prove McCann and Travis Binnion correct. We cannot wait to see him in action.
