There was one Manchester United star who stood out in the Community Shield clash against rivals City.

Alejandro Garnacho scored Manchester United’s goal, leading a rapid counter attack and finishing with the confidence of a young Cristiano Ronaldo.

It was Garnacho’s first game for United since the FA Cup final, after he missed the USA tour due to his involvement at the Copa America.

In the process Garnacho laid down a marker, he is the player to watch this season, while one pundit compared him to former stars Ryan Giggs and Andrei Kanchelskis.

Alejandro Garnacho impresses

Alejandro Garnacho, 20, has less minutes in the tank than some of his colleagues and began the Community Shield on the bench.

But after his warm-up in the Community Shield, Garnacho may be considered ready.

The Mail report Garnacho is expected to start Manchester United’s opening fixture against Fulham.

United’s staff are claimed to be impressed with Garnacho’s attitude, along with his request to cut short his holiday to return to Carrington a few days early, ahead of the 2024/25 season

Garnacho available for dual roles

Alejandro Garnacho has impressed over the past year, demonstrating an ability to make an impact from the left and the right.

You can make a case that Garnacho is United’s best left winger, and best right winger. This effectively double his chances of game time, making him harder to leave out each week.

Where will Garnacho start against Fulham? He should start on the left ahead of Marcus Rashford, who lacked sharpness in the Community Shield and only scored in pre-season from the penalty spot.

But there’s just as much chance Erik ten Hag selects him on the right, in front of Amad, which would be a controversial decision because the Ivorian has been the club’s best player during pre-season.
