Rasmus Hojlund has welcomed Alejandro Garnacho back to Manchester United with a lovely message on Instagram.
While Erik ten Hag has taken a 29-man Manchester United squad to the United States over the last fortnight for this summer’s pre-season tour, several of his first-team stars did not make the trip.
With both Euro 2024 and Copa America taking place this summer, those who made it to the latter stages of the international competitions were granted extra time to rest and recuperate.
But with the Community Shield against Manchester City now just a week away, Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, Altay Bayindir and Alejandro Garnacho all returned to Carrington on Friday to begin their own preparations for the new season.
They won’t meet up with their teammates, who face Liverpool in their final pre-season in the early hours of Sunday morning, until next week and will be working on fitness in the meantime.
Garnacho returns to Manchester with a gold medal in tow after helping Argentina retain Copa America and he received a warm welcome from teammate Rasmus Hojlund upon his arrival.
Hojlund hails Garnacho as a GOAT
Ganacho took to Instagram on Friday evening to express his delight at being back at United. He posted a series of pictures of him in action with the caption: “No place like home.”
Hojlund took to the replies to send his teammate a nice two-word message, simply writing: ‘My goat,’ accompanied with the emoji of the animal.
It will be a while until Garnacho and Hojlund combine again
United’s one beaming light of hope from last season was the exciting glimpses of what the future could hold if the young players continue to shine.
Alongside Kobbie Mainoo, Garnacho and Hojlund were the brightest sparks for United and when they all combined they tended to create magic.
Sadly, it will be a while until Hojlund is a part of that thrilling trifecta again as the injury bug continues to bite at United.
The Danish striker picked up a hamstring injury against Arsenal and is now set for about six weeks on the sidelines, meaning he will miss the opening stages of the new campaign.
With Leny Yoro out for a massive three months, too, it’s been a worrying start for Ten Hag who will now have to rely on new signing Joshua Zirkzee to lead the line in the first weeks of the season.
Mainoo, meanwhile, is still on his holidays after helping England reach the Euros final but will be back early next week.
