Manchester United fans dropped a clear-cut verdict on Amad Diallo after the “exciting” winger’s performance against Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley.

The Red Devils punched their ticket to Sunday’s Community Shield clash after beating Manchester City 2-1 at Wembley in the FA Cup final in May.

Amad Diallo missed the opening of the 2023-24 Premier League campaign after he suffered a knee injury against Arsenal in pre-season in 2023.

The 22-year-old Ivorian winger returned to action before the end of 2023 and struggled to secure regular playing time in the Manchester United first team.

Diallo only managed to make 12 appearances across all competitions last season, with the United star only making three Premier League starts in nine league matches.

However, the United player did make his presence felt in the 2023-24 campaign, including scoring a sensational winner against Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Diallo’s Man Utd performance vs Man City

Amad Diallo has played a starring role for Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag during the Premier League club’s pre-season tour this summer.

The Ivorian attacker secured regular playing time during the pre-season and impressed with his performances, including in the 2-1 defeat against Arsenal.

Diallo’s run of form during pre-season ensured his place in the starting XI for the Community Shield clash against Manchester City at Wembley.

The Ivory Coast international was arguably United’s best player in the first half, with Diallo offering the Red Devils a much-needed attacking threat.

Diallo showed his magic when he superbly linked up with Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro and had a clear-cut shooting chance against Ederson.

However, the United winger opted to square the ball to Mason Mount, who was unable to latch onto Diallo’s pass and put the Red Devils 1-0 up.

Diallo started the second half and played 14 minutes against City before Erik ten Hag withdrew the Ivory Coast winger and replaced him with Alejandro Garnacho.

Man Utd fans react to Diallo vs Man City

Red Devils supporters on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, waxed lyrical about Diallo’s performance against City at Wembley.

United We Stand editor Andy Mitten was among those who praised Diallo, who was the “most exciting player” for Ten Hag during the pre-season tour.

He wrote on X: “Amad was MUFC’s most exciting player on the pre-season tour and he’s the most exciting player in this game so far. He entertains.”

Other Red Devils supporters sent a clear-cut message that Diallo has ‘locked down’ the right wing position, despite Alejandro Garnacho scoring against City.

United fans also believed that Diallo offered a lot more than other players in the role, specifically underperforming Red Devils winger Antony.

“I am convinced. We can simply set up this team as a ‘let Amad hoop’ one and be better than last season. This is the best footballer at the club,” one fan said.

Someone else commented: “Antony can fight for his place all he wants. But he’s up against Amad Diallo, who is the most talented player in the PL [Premier League].”

“Amad [has] done more on that wing in about 400 mins than I’ve seen Antony do in two years,” a third added.

Another simply wrote: “Amad locking down that RW spot.”

While a fifth tweeted: “Yeah, Antony is going to be on the bench for a long, long, time. Amad Diallo is the better footballer, might be the better of all the wingers at Man United at the moment. Great temperament as well, happy to be unselfish.”

And a sixth posted: “My word, it must be unbelievably refreshing for Bruno [Fernandes], [Casemiro] & [Mason] Mount linking up with Amad as opposed to Antony, really bright attacking play from Utd in the last 10 mins, so fluid.”

“Amad is so much better than Antony, and it’s not even close,” another suggested.

An eighth simply said: “Amad is doing exactly what I expected from Antony last season.”
