Manchester United fans remain divided over the Red Devils’ shock decision to terminate Sergio Reguilon’s deal and send the full-back back to parent club Tottenham.
Reguilon arrived at Old Trafford on deadline day last summer after United agreed a season-long loan deal, with Erik ten Hag keen to reinforce his full-back options.
United’s deal for the Tottenham left-back included a break clause at the time of signing, allowing the Red Devils to end his loan spell in January if they choose.
Reguilon was deployed at left-back for United by Ten Hag after Luke Shaw picked up a muscle injury in late August, with Tyrell Malacia also sidelined through injury.
The 27-year-old Spanish full-back managed only 12 appearances across all competitions for United, with Reguilon making only four Premier League starts.
Reguilon struggled to secure regular first-team minutes at United and Ten Hag would even prefer to deploy right-back Diogo Dalot at left-back at times.

Reguilon’s United spell comes to an end
According to The Athletic, United activated their break clause in the Reguilon deal and ended the Tottenham star’s spell at Old Trafford.
Shaw has since returned from injury at United and re-established himself as first-choice left-back, with Malacia also inching closer to his return for Ten Hag’s squad.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein added that the decision to end Reguilon’s loan spell included the fact that United would be playing fewer matches for the remainder of the season.
The Red Devils have been knocked out of the Champions League and were dumped out of the Carabao Cup, with United now reduced to league and FA Cup matches only.
United fans’ reaction to Reguilon’s loan spell ending
United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, very much had mixed reactions to Reguilon’s loan spell coming to an end at the club.
Some fans felt that Reguilon should have stayed due to the fact that Ten Hag’s squad has been plagued with injuries, despite some players returning this month.
Other United supporters, meanwhile, claimed Reguilon highlighted United’s “mystery transfer policy” and questioned why he was signed when Dalot played ahead of him.
“Reguilon [was] another useless and pointless deal by this football club,” one fan said.
Somebody else tweeted: “We need Reguilon because of our injuries, why on earth would Man Utd terminate his loan?”
A third posted: “Reguilon is another example of the mystery transfer policy at United. We brought in [as] a left-back to cover for injuries [only] for Ten Hag to use Dalot in a position he’s never excelled in.”
And a fourth added: “Never fall in love with a loan player. Thank you for everything, Sergio Reguilon.”
“Malacia must be close to returning if we’ve decided to let Reguilon go back to Spurs,” another fan wrote.
While a sixth commented: “Can’t fault Reguilon for effort but he was only ever going to be cover in an injury crisis. With AWB [Aaron Wan-Bissaka] fit again, meaning Dalot can cover LB when needed, we don’t need him anymore.”
A seventh argued: “With Shaw getting injured every week and Malacia still out, we should have tried to keep Reguilon until at least the end of the season.”
