Man Utd Injury Update: Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s injuries are worse than first anticipated

Manchester United have been hit with multiple injuries this season… and they’ve been hit hard.

The injuries seemed to come all at once for United, who struggle with squad depth as it is. Key players such as Mason Mount, Raphael Varane and Kobbie Mainoo have all succumbed to the medical room.

Luckily, these players seem to be on their way back. In particular Mount and Varane, will likely be in the matchday squad to face Burnley this weekend.

Two that aren’t so lucky appear to be Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw. Their injuries seem to be worse than first anticipated.

Wan-Bissaka and Shaw: What was initially said

Luke Shaw

LAST UPDATE: 25th of August 2023 – Luke Shaw has suffered a muscular injury + is expected to be sidelined for an extended period. Assessments are ongoing in the hope that the left back will miss weeks rather than months.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

LAST UPDATE: 18th of September 2023

The club website announced: “Further assessment will be needed to determine how long Wan-Bissaka will be out for, but initial indications suggest it will be several weeks.”

This now doesn’t look the case…

According to a report from ESPN, they believe the duo could be out for ‘lengthy spells’.

According to their source, there are concerns Shaw will not be back before the November international break, which would mean at least another two months out.

Wan-Bissaka could also be facing a similar spell out after picking up a hamstring injury against Brighton. United have confirmed the right-back will miss “several weeks” but ESPN’s source believes it could be more than two months.

Not good. Another problem for Erik ten Hag to deal with. Our two starting full-backs out until at least November is not ideal.

Sergio Reguilon and Diogo Dalot are competent replacements, but one more injury could send things pear-shaped.

It’s going to be a difficult period.
