There has finally been an explanation surrounding the mysterious absence of Tyrell Malacia from the Manchester United squad.
Tyrell Malacia had a promising year in his debut campaign at Old Trafford but has yet to be seen this season and his mysterious injury has never been explained.
Well, a report from the Manchester Evening News has finally shed some light on the situation with the Dutch defender, who joined the club from Feyenoord in the summer of 2022, still unavailable.
According to the report, the Manchester United defender had knee surgery towards the back end of last season which has kept him out of action ever since.

Malacia injury update
The club, according to the report, originally tried to solve the issue with pain-killing injections but it quickly became apparent that surgery was required for the defender to fully heal from the injury.
The defender has been on crutches ever since and has continued his recovery in the Netherlands. There is an expectation, however, that Malacia could be back fit for United before the new year.
Malacia last played a competitive fixture for the Netherlands in the semi-finals of the UEFA Nations League on June 14, appearing from the bench in that game for the final 15 minutes as his nation were defeated 4-2 by Croatia.
Malacia’s return is needed
The Dutch defender, as mentioned, had a positive debut campaign in Manchester under Erik ten Hag with his defensive capabilities meant he was a solid 6-7/10 every week at left-back in Luke Shaw’s absence.
The defender, unlike Sergio Reguilon and Diogo Dalot, excels in the defensive side of the game and the Dutchman would be the perfect foil for Marcus Rashford, who loves to push forward and attack the full-back.
After months of confusion surrounding the absence of the Dutch defender, it’s good to finally get some clarity on the situation surrounding the 24-year-old. The hope will be that he can return sooner rather than later.
