Sergio Reguilon is leaving Manchester United after the Premier League giants triggered the break clause in the contract of the Tottenham Hotspur-owned left-back.
That is according to The Athletic, a player who’s arrival at Old Trafford was borne very much out of necessity deemed surplus to requirements these days.
Sergio Reguilon’s Manchester United career is over after just four months and 12 appearances. The swashbuckling Spain international joined on a season-long deal on the final day of the summer window after Erik ten Hag lost both Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw to injury, and Alvaro Fernandez moved to Granada.
But, with Malacia and Shaw recovering, and with United’s fixture schedule made a lot more barren by their early exit from European competition, the Red Devils obviously feel that they no longer have a need for Reguilon, triggering the ‘break clause’ in his contract ahead of a return to North London.

Manchester United cancel Sergio Reguilon deal
Reguilon, who was once a Man United target before joining Tottenham in a £28 million deal from Real Madrid back in 2020, started only four league games under Ten Hag. Diogo Dalot has been preferred at left-back of late, despite being a natural right-footer.
Reguilon’s brief cameo off the bench during that insipid 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest now looks certain to be his last in a Man United shirt.
An injury crisis which has stalked United throughout a dismal campaign is showing signs of depleting, with Malacia one of a number of first-teamers who should be on their way back to fitness in the coming weeks.
First of many January departures?
“I think in mid-January, we expect many players back,” Ten Hag told the Man United website last week. “Mason (Mount), Casemiro, (Lisandro) Martinez. Malacia. We expect Harry Maguire (back too), of course.
“We expect many players to return in January.”
Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial are among those who could also leave Manchester United before the month is out.
