Tottenham loanee Sergio Reguilon has insisted that Erik ten Hag “wanted” him to come to Manchester United after making his sensational start to life at Old Trafford.
Reguilon arrived at United on deadline day as part of a season-long loan deal from Spurs, following the absence of Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw due to injuries.
The 26-year-old Spanish left-back was an unused substitute in the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal before making his United debut in the 3-1 loss to Brighton at Old Trafford.
Reguilon has now started three consecutive matches for United, including his side’s opening Champions League clash at the Allianz Arena against Bayern Munich.
The Spain international has successfully integrated himself into United’s XI after Shaw’s injury and Reguilon has earned praises from both fans and pundits.

Reguilon on Ten Hag and United
Reguilon’s immediate impact has already led to some United fans calling for Ten Hag to make his move permanent at the end of his loan spell.
The Spurs loanee has been lauded for his attacking qualities, but Reguilon did come under some criticism for his defensive attributes in the Brighton defeat at home.
Speaking ahead of United’s Carabao Cup clash against Crystal Palace on Tuesday evening, Reguilon believes that he shares the “same philosophy” as Ten Hag.
“He wanted me to come and I wanted to come here, too,” he told United’s official website.
“It was all very easy. Now I am here and we have been speaking in training about what he wants from his left-back.
“I think we share the same philosophy. He likes hard workers and I love working hard, I think we’re on exactly the same page.”
Reguilon on his United debut
Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that United’s coaching staff are “very happy” with Reguilon and the player has a “fantastic attitude” and “understands Ten Hag’s ideas.”
Reguilon admitted that he was thrilled that he had the opportunity to make his United debut at Old Trafford, saying it was a “truly amazing” moment in his career.
“I played there [at Old Trafford] for the away side once during COVID and so, unfortunately, there were no fans but, the next time, the stadium was full and it was truly amazing,” he said.
“It’s a historic stadium and really special.
“There’s so much history. As we say in Spain, they are gentlemen. They have been through it all [and] it’s amazing to see this in football.”
