Furious Manchester United fans have called on Erik ten Hag to “sell” Anthony Martial after the former France international’s disappointing display against Arsenal.
Martial started for United at the Emirates on Sunday, with £72m summer signing Rasmus Hojlund taking his place on the bench after recovering from his injury.
United broke the deadlock in the first half through Marcus Rashford after Arsenal summer signing Kai Havertz carelessly lost possession in the opposition half.
Christian Eriksen released Rashford down the left and the England international fired a stunning right-footed strike past Aaron Ramsdale from inside the Arsenal box.
Arsenal instantly responded to Rashford’s opener after Gabriel Martinelli picked out Martin Odegaard, who fired his first-time shot past a helpless Andre Onana.
Martial failed to add his name to the scoresheet before United manager Ten Hag made the decision to withdraw him and replace him with Denmark striker Hojlund.

Another furiously wrote: “Ten Hag should [stop] wasting time [and] effort and sell Martial.”
A third simply added: “We need to sell Martial.”
While a fourth posted: “Some United fans have to accept that Martial isn’t top quality. He’s sold us dreams.”
“We might as well be playing with 10 men with Martial on the pitch,” another tweeted.
Someone else commented: “Anthony Martial should leave the pitch. We need a striker for this team.”
What is next for Martial?
Martial’s future at Old Trafford looks increasingly bleak with the arrival of Hojlund, who will no doubt be Ten Hag’s first-choice striker for United’s current season.
The 27-year-old Frenchman, who arrived at Old Trafford in a £36m deal from Monaco in 2015, will be out of contract at United in 2024.
Martial will struggle for first-team minutes once a fully fit Hojlund starts, with Ten Hag considering the former Monaco star surplus to requirements.
Goals from Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus in injury time sealed a sensational 3-1 comeback win over United and secured all three points for Arsenal ahead of the international break.
United’s first Premier League fixture post-international break will be against Brighton at Old Trafford on 16th September.
