Manchester United fans have been “impressed” with Sergio Reguilon after the Tottenham loanee produced a “class” performance against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

A deadline-day loan signing from Spurs, Reguilon has stepped up in the absence of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia as first-choice left-back for United under Erik ten Hag.

Reguilon made his debut in United’s 3-1 defeat to Brighton at Old Trafford and impressed with his attacking flair, though he was criticised for his defensive qualities.

However, the 26-year-old Spanish full-back wowed United fans again with his superb display against Bayern at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday evening.

United ultimately walked away with no points from their Champions League opener, but Reguilon was a standout performer in the thrilling 4-3 defeat to Bayern.

United fans happy with ‘underrated’ Reguilon

United fans flocked to Twitter, now rebranded as X under Elon Musk’s ownership, and praised Reguilon for his performances against Brighton and Bayern.

Some supporters are even hopeful of the Spain international being a permanent signing at the end of the season, offering up competition for Shaw and Malacia.

One fan wrote: “I have been impressed by Sergio Reguilon’s performances since he came to Manchester United!”

Another Twitter (AKA X) user tweeted: “Reguilon and this warrior vibes. Don’t introduce me to a vibe you can’t maintain.”

While a third added: “The one player I’ve been impressed by in the last two games was Reguilon and, for me, will probably keep his place when [Luke] Shaw is back.”

Someone else commented: “Reguilon being our best player over our last [two matches], really impressed me.”

“Reguilon, man…. we’ve underrated him,” one fan simply said.

And a sixth posted: “Always knew Reguilon was class. Just has a bad injury record. How Spurs managed to make him an outcast I’ll never know.”

A seventh fan added: “I think we should be signing Reguilon permanently, he [has] been class.”

Ten Hag unhappy with United defence against Bayern

Despite Reguilon’s individual performance for United on the night, Ten Hag was not overly happy with how his side performed against a superb Bayern side.

The United boss refused to outright blame Andre Onana for his costly howler, with Ten Hag suggesting his defenders can’t “let players through so easy.”

Speaking after the match (via The Daily Mail), Ten Hag said: “[I’m] disappointed and when you score three goals in Munich, at the least you have to take a point and we didn’t. And you have to look in the mirror because the goals were easy giveaways.

“We were, in the first 25 minutes, better in the game than Munich and then that goal, it was so easy and it was not only Andre.

“If you see how easy Sane is going through and that has to do with determination, you don’t let players through so easy.”
