Man United fans think Bryan Mbeumo could be handed new position after what was spotted in training

Versatility is one of Bryan Mbeumo’s biggest strengths and the new Manchester United signing could play in several positions next season.

After a six-week transfer saga, Manchester United signed Bryan Mbeumo for £65m from Brentford, making him the third major signing of the summer window.

Mbeumo has already impressed Ruben Amorim in pre-season training, although his debut has been delayed to allow the 25-year-old extra time to catch up to the fitness of his new teammates.

He was left out against West Ham, but Mbeumo is expected to debut against Everton in what will be the final game of the US pre-season tour.

Fans will eagerly await their first glimpse of the new signing, and supporters will be excited to see where Bryan Mbeumo lines up in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation.

Man United fans think Bryan Mbeumo could play as a wing-back

Matheus Cunha has already strengthened United’s attacking line-up and showed signs of promise in pre-season, and many expect Mbeumo to join him in a new-look front three.

But United have been releasing new training footage this week and now fans believe he could feature as a wing-back in Amorim’s system.

One fan analysed: “Mbeumo starting outside (RWB) & Mantato inside (R10) before he signals for an overlap to create separation/space, takes his man on & shoots. Expect to see that a lot with Mbeumo, Amad & Mantato.”

In response, one supporter wrote: “I knew Mbeumo would play RWB that R10 is Amad’s.”

Another fan agreed, saying: “I’ve said it for a while… we are all expecting him to play in the 10 but i think we will see Mbuemo at RWB.”

However, not every fan was in support of Mbeumo playing further back – “Don’t wanna see Mbuemo at RWB without possession though…”

One fan suggested that Mbeumo could form a fluid partnership with Amad Diallo on the right: “Believed this could be the case — Mbeumo looks to cut inside Amad (central position in settled possession) can then make the move to get round him wide and drag a body away to create space.”

Bryan Mbeumo could play three positions for Man United

Mbeumo will add pace to United’s squad, and with 20 goals last season he has proven that he is one of the best finishers in the Premier League.

Naturally, Mbeumo seems a perfect fit to be the right-sided No.10 in Amorim’s formation, but the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Amad Diallo and Mason Mount will also be competing for the spot.

Amorim has already shown this pre-season that he is willing to be flexible with his options, and it is not impossible that Mbeumo could spend time as a wing-back this season.

At Sporting, Amorim transitioned from using full-backs out wide to instead using wingers who can attack space. If United are pushing to score, Mbeumo being used out wide frees up space for another attacker in the front three.

Mbeumo did play as a wing-back on occasion at Brentford, so it would not be entirely unfamiliar to him. Additionally, he also spent stints as a central striker – which is another position he could take up at United.

United are currently shopping for a new striker, but Mbeumo could spend time at the spearhead of United’s attack.
