‘We need…’ – Bruno Fernandes outlines what Manchester United lack in attack after win over Ipswich Town

Bruno Fernandes was among Manchester United’s top performers after a 3-2 win over Ipswich Town.

Manchester United conceded the opening goal just four minutes in as a defensive mix-up between Patrick Dorgu and Andre Onana allowed Jaden Philogene to fire the ball into an empty net.

An own goal from Ipswich captain Sam Morsy brought United level and they took the lead minutes later when Matthijs de Ligt was in the right place at the right time.

The game took a turn before the break as Philogene scored his second minutes after Dorgu was sent off for a reckless challenge on Omari Hutchinson.

While the two teams went in level at half-time, it took Harry Maguire three minutes to give United the lead after the interval.

Ipswich failed to take advantage of having an extra body on the pitch, forcing Onana to make just one save in the second half.

The match ended United 3-2 Ipswich as Ruben Amorim’s side jumped to 14th in the Premier League table.

Bruno Fernandes demands more aggression

United have struggled in front of goal throughout the season, but tonight the Reds put three goals past relegation bound Ipswich Town.

Amorim will hope a trend starts here, though he will also want to see more clean sheets in the future.

Fernandes was the star yet again, his set pieces proved troublesome as he recorded two assists against the Tractor Boys.

The Portugal international inspired United to come from behind against Everton as they clinched a 2-2 draw last weekend. He continues to be United’s most influential player and main source of creativity.

Speaking after the match, Fernandes challenged his teammates to build on their performance by scoring more goals in the coming weeks.

“We have been suffering,” Fernandes told TNT Sports.

“We have not been at our best as Harry said. When you are playing your best football, you concede a goal so early but still get back into the game.

“We scored from two set pieces but we were in complete control of the game, playing between the lines, finding the spaces and the games.

“I think we are still missing that bit of aggressiveness going forward where we beat our opposition between the lines. We need to be more aggressive going into their box but we are going to get that with time.

“The players will get more confidence when we win games and brave. Hopefully in the next games we are going to score more and more.”

What’s next for Bruno Fernandes?

Manchester United and Bruno Fernandes are back in FA Cup action this weekend.

The Reds take on Fulham in the fifth round of football’s oldest cup competition on Sunday.

The FA Cup presents United with an opportunity to win silverware after a difficult campaign, a feat achieved under Erik ten Hag last season.

United’s next league match is at Old Trafford against Arsenal on 9 March.
