Manchester United have often been criticised for a lack of leadership in and around the dressing room.
Earlier this season, Roy Keane ranted about Bruno Fernandes’ leadership despite the Manchester United captain’s incredible form.
Ruben Amorim defended Fernandes and argued that his side does have leaders willing to take responsibility.
Amorim is in charge of an extremely youthful dressing room after promoting several academy players, but there are a handful of players who have helped the youngsters progress.
In particular, Harry Maguire has become a role model for youngsters, helping the likes of Harry Amass, James Scanlon and Godwill Kukonki settle into the first-team dressing room.

Man United chiefs schedule Harry Maguire talks
A few seasons ago, Harry Maguire was being booed by fans of his club and country after his form took a turn for the worst.
However, Maguire refused to quit United and his turn-around has been remarkable. Maguire’s extraordinary winner against Lyon is the only reason there is any hope left in United’s season.
According to The Athletic, Maguire’s reputation behind the scenes at Carrington has grown so much that club chiefs want him to have a long-term future at the club.
That involves a potential role beyond his playing days, whether that be in the boardroom or as part of the coaching staff is yet to be seen.
Maguire has started his coaching badges so he could transition into the backroom staff at Old Trafford once he chooses to retire.
In the meantime, United are keen to tie the 32-year-old down to a new deal.
Harry Maguire contract update
Maguire’s contract was set to expire this summer, and for much of the season it seemed that an agreement for a new deal wasn’t close.
After the change of manager in November, Amorim ‘desperately’ wanted to keep Maguire on the books at United, so he applied pressure to get a new contract sorted.
In January, Amorim confirmed Maguire’s contract extension was triggered, adding an extra year to his current deal. As it stands, he will become a free agent in the summer of 2026.
However, it seems Maguire is a highly-valued individual in United’s dressing room, and his performances this season suggest he still has a big part to play under Amorim.
After his extension was confirmed, Maguire explained via the Manchester United website that he views himself as a “leader” in the dressing room even after being stripped of the captaincy.
Maguire currently earns £190,000 per week and United chiefs will be eager to cut that figure if the England international agrees to a new deal.
The Athletic report above claims talks on a new deal are scheduled for the summer.
