Man United academy star with ‘freakish’ stats spotted at Old Trafford ahead of Bournemouth clash

Ruben Amorim is not afraid to put his faith in Manchester United’s youth stars.

One key characteristic that helped Ruben Amorim land the Manchester United job is his excellent record with younger players.

Amorim gave 27 debuts at Sporting and nurtured some of Portugal’s best young talent to create a league-winning side. Ineos want him to repeat that trick in Manchester.

The Portuguese head coach has already put his faith in several United stars with Amad Diallo thriving under Amorim.

In United’s remarkable comeback at the Etihad Stadium, the average age of United’s players vs City was just 24.8 years old with Amorim relying on the likes of Amad, Kobbie Mainoo and Leny Yoro to pick up three points.

Amorim has also had his eye on some academy stars with Godwill Kukonki called up to the first team recently. Jack Moorhouse starred in front of Amorim for the Under-21s this month.

Toby Collyer returns for Man United vs Bournemouth

The biggest star of United’s pre-season tour was Toby Collyer, who looked set to breakthrough under Erik ten Hag this season before suffering an injury.

The 20-year-old midfielder has made three senior appearances for United with Collyer making his Premier League debut against Liverpool in the 3-0 defeat in September.

After recovering from his injury, Collyer returned to training ahead of the Europa League clash against Viktoria Plzen.

Amorim named Toby Collyer on the bench for the European clash, and it seems he will also be in the matchday squad against Bournemouth after he was spotted arriving at Old Trafford.

Kobbie Mainoo has already paved the way for Collyer to come into United’s first team following an injury and cement a spot as a first-team regular.

Collyer will want to follow in Mainoo’s footsteps, and reports suggest he is just as highly valued by United’s coaching staff.

Reports from earlier this season suggested that Collyer has demonstrated ‘freakish’ running stats in training, which have only been bettered by Bruno Fernandes.

Amorim wants intensity and physicality in his midfield pairing, something that has recently been provided by Manuel Ugarte. Collyer seems like a good fit for the 3-4-3 system and he could soon get his chance to impress Amorim on the pitch.

United face Bournemouth at 2pm on Sunday afternoon and Collyer could make his return to the pitch after being out injured for over two months.
