Maxi Oyedele – 7

He didn’t get as many plaudits as Toby Collyer did but Oyedele was as impressive as Collyer, if not better, for the first two games. His role reduced during the USA tour but a better loan team should be on the horizon.

Jack Fletcher – 5

Was in the traveling squad for the USA tour but didn’t come off the bench in any of the three games. Failed to stand out against Rangers or Rosenborg, with the latter opposition a struggle, in particular. Is firmly a part of the youth level for now.

Toby Collyer – 7.5

He was the one to watch coming into the pre-season and his performances didn’t disappoint. One of the few players who appeared in every pre-season game and his defensive nous was appreciated by many. His possession game remains a work in progress but he has shown the potential to be a contributor to the first team.

Casemiro – 4

There was renewed hope when he started the pre-season well and was supported by his teammates. However, that soon gave way to the inevitable signs of decline, the nadir of which was reached against Liverpool. United can’t afford to play the whole season with him at No. 6 anymore.

Hannibal – 4

For a 21-year-old “prospect” to not play a single minute in the final game against Liverpool is damning and says everything about where he stands right now at United. He started against Rosenborg didn’t feel like he had the leg up on his teammates in terms of experience. Should be sold in the window.

Mason Mount – 7

Probably the only player who emerged with credit in every pre-season game, regardless of the result. He was fielded as one of the deeper midfielders in a pivot 4-2-3-1, as the advanced man in a 4-3-3, and even had stints out wide. He impressed everywhere with his work rate, defensive acumen, and progressive passing. Mount offered hope he can be a real asset this season.

Scott McTominay – 6.5

He is a midfielder in only the name at this point but that is still the position he arrives from to score goals. He joined the team for the US tour and gave the full “McTominay experience”- absent in buildup, box-crashing threat, and a selfless runner. Was not very clinical but you know what you get from him by now.

Christian Eriksen – 6

Played all three games on the USA tour and had performances ranging from five to seven out of 10 for a perfect average of six. Dominated in second gear vs Betis, was rushed vs Liverpool, handled himself well vs Arsenal. A good back-up to have if the team expects to have plenty of possession.
