One of Man Utd’s best youngsters reminded everyone of his quality right in front of Ruben Amorim

Manchester United’s U21s put in a performance which will have wowed Travis Binnion on Saturday, all while Ruben Amorim watched on.

After a disappointing midweek U19 0-0 against AZ Alkmaar which saw Manchester United crash out of the tournament, Saturday saw a midday kick-off for the U21s.

The U21s are not as dominant and free-flowing as the U18s are under Adam Lawrence, but Saturday was a rather different story.

Travis Binnion saw his United academy side thump Southampton 5-1 at Carrington and move up to fifth in the Premier League 2 in the process.

It was never in doubt after United took a 15th-minute lead, with a 62nd-minute Southampton consolation the only thing they would have to take from the game.

Manchester United U21 scored dominant victory

United scored some brilliant goals on Saturday, with Tyler Fletcher kicking things off with a volley that he drilled into the ground before it then looped over the goalkeeper and into the net.

Dan Gore continued this trend in the 32nd minute as he finished from the edge of the box with a low-drilled shot which nestled in the bottom corner.

After this, Jack Moorhouse scored his first of the game and the season, finishing off a well-worked goal from Binnion’s side.

Ethan Wheatley then made it 4-0, redeeming himself after an earlier penalty miss. Finally, Moorhouse added his fifth and final United goal in the 92nd minute and it was a work of art.

Moorhouse danced through the entire Southampton defence as though it were butter, all before finishing from close range.

“Great feet, lovely finish”, Ben Thornley raved on MUTV commentary.

Jack Moorhouse immaculate in front of Ruben Amorim

Moorhouse only recently returned after 431 days on the injury table, a spell which may have ruined plenty of young players.

Prior to his injury problems, Moorhouse debuted for the U18s aged 15.

Having been out since 2023, Moorhouse returned as a United under-21 player and to now be playing so well against his peers is an impressive sign.

For Moorhouse, this performance will have been made even better by the fact Ruben Amorim was spotted in attendance during the game.

If the head coach is looking for additions to his squad, then we are sure Moorhouse has just jumped to the top of his list.
