Roy Keane says he was ‘raging’ after what one Man Utd player was doing vs Nottingham Forest

Roy Keane has once again taken aim at Bruno Fernandes after a major narrative around the Manchester United captain in the Nottingham Forest match on Sunday.

Bruno Fernandes secured his 20th Premier League assist of the 2025-26 campaign after the 31-year-old Portuguese midfielder set up Bryan Mbeumo in the second half.

The Manchester United captain has now moved level with both Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry for the all-time Premier League assist record in a single season.

Fernandes has only one Premier League match left in the current season to eclipse the record that he now shares with both Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.

Roy Keane was not a fan of the Premier League assist narrative around Bruno Fernandes in the Man Utd match

Bruno Fernandes has picked up 21 assists in 36 matches across all competitions this season, with the Portugal midfielder also netting eight times for Manchester United.

The Portugal international had multiple opportunities to break the Premier League assist record on Sunday, only for United players to squander their chances.

Roy Keane was in the Sky Sports studio for the Man Utd vs Nottingham Forest match and has since revisited the result on The Overlap’s Stick to Football podcast.

The 54-year-old no-nonsense Irishman admitted that he was not happy with how much the assist narrative around Fernandes dominated Sunday afternoon’s match.

“When you’re the captain of a club and you’re supposed to be driving the club forward, do not be getting bogged down by just your role in the team,” Keane said.

“Just assist. What I heard with United the weekend, honestly, I was raging with it. The whole chat about his assists and players talking about his assists.

Roy Keane is deeply critical of Bruno Fernandes’ remarks after Man Utd’s 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest

United legend Keane pulled no punches towards Fernandes and the Sky Sports pundit even took issue with the remarks that the Red Devils skipper made.

“All the game was about his assists,” he added.

“That’s the whole talk. After the game, he got interviewed and he said in his interview, the captain of Man United, he said, ‘Yeah, a few times I probably should have.’

“He said this himself, ‘I should have shot, but I made them passes.’ Wow. How can your mindset of a football player go to a match and be talking about some individual record?”

Following Man Utd’s 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League at Old Trafford, the Red Devils will now return to action against Brighton on Sunday.
