Goalkeeper Joel Pereira has clinched a move to Eredivisie side RKC Waalwijk.

Pereira was one of eight players released by United at the end of June.

The 25-year-old was due to move on, having fallen down the United pecking order and failing to mount a challenge for first team football.

Pereira joins RKC Waalwijk, who finished in 15th place in the Eredivisie last season.

Frank van Mosselveld, Waalwijk general director told the club website: “With the arrival of Joel we are bringing in a goalkeeper with a lot of potential, who also has the necessary experience.

“He received his training at Manchester United and has had many playing hours during that period. Here in Waalwijk he gets the opportunity to further develop himself and together with him we will go for the maximum achievable.”

Pereira has done well to find a club quickly and getting a chance to settle in early will boost his chance of success, and will train with his new club for the first time tomorrow.

Last season he was a late mover on loan to Huddersfield, where he was required only as a back-up. His previous loan move to Hearts also came right at the season kick-off, and he will benefit from having a proper pre-season with his new side.

For Pereira this is all about a fresh start. He had spent nine years at United and posted a thankful goodbye message last week.

Pereira has a one-year contract with an option of a further season. He will be looking to earn that renewal and a longer deal.

This is his first spell in Dutch football, having had loan spells in England, Scotland, Portugal and Belgium.

The 25-year-old is the fourth released United player to secure a new club, following Iestyn Hughes’ move to Leicester, Mark Helm to Burnley, and Jacob Carney to Sunderland.

Arnau Puigmal, Max Taylor, Aliou Traore, and Sergio Romero are all looking to secure their next moves as free agents.
