Jamie Carragher does not expect Manchester United to sell one of their key first-team players to their Premier League rivals before the January window shuts.

Ruben Amorim has hinted that Manchester United could have a relatively quiet January transfer window, despite their need to strengthen the squad.

However, the 40-year-old United manager will see his team bolstered in one important area with the arrival of full-back Patrick Dorgu from Serie A club Lecce.

The Red Devils have seen several first-team players linked with moves away from Old Trafford, including the likes of Casemiro and Marcus Rashford.

The Premier League transfer window will slam shut on 3rd February, with United needing to sell players before they can bring more players to Old Trafford.

Carragher rules out Man Utd sale

Alejandro Garnacho’s long-term future at Old Trafford remains uncertain under Ruben Amorim and Manchester United have hinted that a sale could happen.

The 20-year-old Spain-born attacker is a youth academy product and a big-money sale would benefit United amid the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Alejandro Garnacho is under contract with the Premier League club until 2028 and the Argentina international is a fan favourite at Old Trafford.

The United winger was a key first-team player under former United manager Erik ten Hag, who was sacked by the Red Devils last October.

However, Garnacho’s role under Amorim remains unclear due to the United manager not using wingers for his tactical system at the Red Devils.

The Argentina winger has attracted interest from clubs in Europe, including from Serie A outfit Napoli and even from Premier League side Chelsea.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher has suggested that the Blues won’t sign Garnacho because they don’t need another winger among their ranks.

When asked about Garnacho to Chelsea, the Sky Sports pundit responded: “No deal because Chelsea do not need to sign another winger.”

Amorim on Garnacho’s Man Utd future

Speaking after the 1-0 Premier League win against Fulham, Amorim was asked about Alejandro Garnacho’s future and he remained cryptic with his stance.

“That nobody knows [leaving in January]. Anything can happen,” he said at his post-match press conference on Sunday.

“But with Garnacho, he’s improving in every department of the game, the way that he recovers, the understanding of the game when he defends.

“I’m trying to find the best position for him – today he played a little bit more open, not so much inside.

“We need guys with the one-v-one [ability], but like I say I don’t know what’s going to happen until the end of the window.”
