Manchester United are closing in on the sale of midfielder Scott McTominay to Napoli.
After a summer being linked with a transfer to Fulham, Scott McTominay now appears to be heading to Italian side Napoli instead.
The Athletic report a fee has been agreed at £25.4 million for McTominay to join Napoli, which would become one of Manchester United’s most expensive transfer sales of all time.
McTominay had only one year remaining on his contract at United, so cashing in is a sensible move.

Scott McTominay exit
Ineos are attempting to rebuild Manchester United’s reputation in the transfer market, after years of inefficient incomings and outgoings.
Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri has expressed his surprise, crediting Manchester United for getting the better financial deal where this transfer is concerned.
He wrote on X: “Never in a lifetime I’d expect that in a deal between Manchester United and Napoli, the better financial side would be Manchester United’s.
“Signing McTominay is great coup for Napoli. But selling him at 30m€ with only 1 year contract left, it is a great economical deal for Mufc.”
Transfer market has backed United stance
United did have an option to extend McTominay’s contract to 2026, which gave the Red Devils a little extra leverage.
Selling McTominay is a statement in terms of Ineos’ commitment to change, and in terms of price, United have had some help from other transfers concluded this summer.
Arsenal sold Emile Smith-Rowe for £27 million rising to £34 million, a midfielder who failed to score a single goal last season.
McTominay struck 10 goals in all competitions for Manchester United, and was one of the highest goalscorers in Euro 2024 qualifying.
His exit allows United a little more maneuverability in regard to PSR to get a deal concluded for Manuel Ugarte.
