Scott McTominay transfer latest as Manchester United departure agreed, Manuel Ugarte arrival now close

Manchester United still have work to do in the transfer market and Erik ten Hag will be hoping for movement in his midfield this week.

The early optimism around Manchester United after beating Fulham 1-0 has been cooled after losing 2-1 at Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.

United giving away a last-gasp winner – a free header in the six-yard box no less – has highlighted that there is still plenty of work to be done.

The transfer deadline is now fast approaching and United have just a few days to squeeze through some more moves before the window shuts until January.

Fans will hope that means incomings, but more sales may be needed to unlock further additions for Erik ten Hag.

Scott McTominay to Napoli latest

One man who could be on the move is Scott McTominay.

Napoli have been desperate to sign McTominay and their transfer chief Giovanni Manna was in England just days ago to try and thrash out a deal.

Fabrizio Romano has highlighted that Napoli’s interest in McTominay ‘remains strong’ despite a rejected bid of €25million – and they appear to be closing in.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports that Napoli have now agreed a deal with United for the services of McTominay.

United will bring in €30million (£25.4million) for McTominay whilst retaining a percentage of any future sale.

Ornstein highlights that selling McTominay is ‘important’ for United’s FFP situation with the midfielder going down as pure profit having come through the club’s ranks.

McTominay came off the bench against Brighton on Saturday afternoon, but that looks to be his final appearance in a United shirt.

Manuel Ugarte to Manchester United

McTominay’s exit will be agreed with a heavy heart; he has always given his all in the United midfield and chipped in with 10 goals last season.

The Scot now appears to be on his way out though and United are ready to accelerate an incoming deal at the same time.

Ornstein notes that McTominay’s exit would help United finalise a deal for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

United have been chasing the combative Uruguayan all summer and Fabrizio Romano claims that a deal for Ugarte is ‘almost completed’.

Ugarte continues to be left out of the Paris Saint-Germain squad ahead of completing a move to Old Trafford, with the deal in-part funded by McTominay leaving.
