Ruben Amorim has admitted he is “embarrassed” by Manchester United’s Premier League position this season.
After the 2-0 defeat to West Ham on the weekend, Manchester United remain slumped in 16th place in the Premier League table.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 15 | 36 | 10 | 10 | 16 | 42 | 59 | -17 | 40 | |
| 16 | 36 | 10 | 9 | 17 | 42 | 53 | -11 | 39 | |
| 17 | 36 | 11 | 5 | 20 | 63 | 59 | 4 | 38 |
The Red Devils sit just one point above Tottenham in 17th, and it is the North London side they will face in the Europa League final in Bilbao on May 21st. The winner will achieve Champions League qualification.
But Amorim is already looking beyond the Europa League final and insists a lot of change is needed this summer.
United’s league form has been terrible, and Ruben Amorim knows the sack awaits if he cannot turn it around. Ineos have now let him know exactly what the target is next season.

Man United set Premier League target for Ruben Amorim
Ideally, Amorim wanted to join United at the end of the season and now everyone can see why. He has taken charge of an imbalanced team who have had to try and adapt to an entirely new season in a short space of time.
Fans are aware that Amorim will only be judged next season once he has a summer transfer window and a pre-season to work with his squad.
But the terrible league form this season means there are already question marks over his future at the club.
According to Manchester Evening News, Ineos are targeting a top-six finish in the Premier League next season.
Regardless of the result in the Europa League final, club chiefs believe a top-six finish is achievable for Amorim. Falling short of that expectation could see the Portuguese coach leave Old Trafford.
Ineos must back Ruben Amorim in summer transfer window
If Amorim is to go from 16th to sixth next season, he will need a lot of backing from the hierarchy at Old Trafford.
A summer overhaul is expected with Ineos planning on raising £100 million in sales to fund their own signings.
Amorim wants more physicality in his squad, and Ineos will have to deliver on that wish through signings this summer.
So far, Ineos’ recruitment has been excellent with all seven signings made under the new ownership making a positive impact at the club.
Even if Amorim wins the Europa League later this month, he will be under intense pressure for the start of the 2025/26 season.
A strong start will be required to shake the spotlight, and that means United have no time to waste in both their post and pre-season tours.
