Manchester United’s defeat to West Ham raised some serious alarm bells for head coach Ruben Amorim.
Ruben Amorim has been flawless in Europe since becoming Manchester United head coach, and he has a chance to win his first trophy at the club in the Europa League final later this month.
But the results in the Premier League have been an entirely different story and United suffered a 17th defeat of the season when West Ham won 2-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Amorim has explained why United struggle in the league, but fixing those problems has proven impossible.
United’s entire season hinges on winning the Europa League, but Ruben Amorim is growing concerned by the lack of urgency – and results – domestically.

Ruben Amorim’s Europa League final admission
There are just 10 days remaining until United return to Bilbao for the Europa League final, and those 90 minutes against Tottenham will entirely determine next season’s plans.
Amorim has admitted United will focus on Europe, but he likely didn’t expect his United side to go seven straight league games without a win in the process.
Against West Ham, Amorim named a fairly strong lineup at Old Trafford but even then the Red Devils weren’t able to earn any points.
After the defeat, Amorim made a startling admission about United’s upcoming final.
Speaking to the press after the match, he said: “To be honest with you, I’m not concerned about the final. We need to change something deeper than this.
“Everyone has to think seriously about a lot of things here. Everybody is thinking about the final… the final is not the issue in our club, we have bigger things to think about and have to change a lot of things at the end of the season.”
Europa League final cannot fix Man United’s mentality
Amorim is completely right – regardless of what happens in Bilbao later this month, the performances and results in the Premier League have been completely unacceptable.
Paul Scholes criticised Amorim’s mentality this week for allowing United to cruise in the Premier League while they focus on Europe, but Amorim has now made it clear that he is far from pleased.
Next season, Amorim will be judged on his Premier League results more than anything, and so far it has proven an impossible puzzle to crack.
Even though there is nothing left to play for domestically, the lack of urgency and passion in Sunday’s defeat has evidently worried Amorim about his side’s mentality and that won’t be simply fixed by winning the Europa League.
Change is needed in the summer, and Amorim will make sure it happens.
