‘I don’t feel that way…’ Ruben Amorim disagrees with ‘critics’ over one Man Utd star, he is ‘ready’

Manchester United battled hard to overcome their Old Trafford demons and ultimately did so in a topsy-turvy 3-2 win against Ipswich.

If the general Man Utd game under Ruben Amorim has been lethargic and devoid of confidence, this was the polar opposite, sometimes with almost too much excitement!

Bruno Fernandes was monstrous, Alejandro Garnacho generated controversy, Patrick Dorgu was sent off, and Man Utd finally scored some first-half goals.

Amidst a barrage of talking points, however, Amorim reserved time to come to the defence of one Man Utd star, strongly disagreeing with ‘critics’ over his readiness.

The post-match discussion threatened to get dominated by Alejandro Garnacho after he went straight down the tunnel following his first-half sub.

Amorim said he’ll talk to Garnacho after the game, with an update expected at his next press conference but that Garnacho sub happened for a reason.

Patrick Dorgu was sent off for serious foul play after going studs-up on a challenge on Omari Hutchinson, making the need for a reshuffle urgent.

Dorgu had done well till that point, even though the glimpses of potential were mixed with moments of madness, but Amorim chose to focus on the positives.

He said: “Players can have a mistake like Patrick today. The sending-off, he wants to play the ball. He is ready for the Premier League. Last week he had a good performance against Everton, today they [the critics] will say he is not experienced enough for the Premier League, but I don’t feel that way.”

Patrick Dorgu is a building block

When United signed a 20-year-old from Lecce, it wasn’t expected that he would walk into this team and immediately become one of the positives.

Despite his miscommunication with Andre Onana for Ipswich’s opener and his sending-off, there are so many intangibles in his game that should make him a building block for this team going forward.

He hasn’t looked out of place despite being dropped into a chaotic atmosphere in an intense league, with the teammates already looking to him at every opportunity.

Dorgu will miss a few games now which hopefully doesn’t stifle his momentum because the youngster has shown the ability and most importantly, the mentality to be a success at Old Trafford for a long time.
